Kurt Uhlenbrauck was born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin on November 11, 1962. He is eldest child of Ken and Marva Uhlenbrauck who have three other children, Koreen Uhlenbrauck, Kandis (Uhlenbrauck) Oldroyd (married to David) and Kent Uhlenbrauck, (married to Vanessa). Kurt was baptized on December 2, 1962 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Appleton. There he also attended elementary school and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in May of 1977. He studied at Fox Valley Lutheran High School and graduated from there in 1981. After he graduated from Northwestern College with a B.A. degree, he continued his pastoral training at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon. He spent his vicar year at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Savanna and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, under the supervision of Rev. Wayne Schneider. He graduated in June of 1990 with a Masters of Divinity degree.
While Kurt was married, he was blessed with four daughters. Ariel Krienke lives in Winthrop, Minnesota with her husband Randy and is employed at the Three M plant in New Ulm. Amber, who is married to Dave Lindeman, graduated from Grand Valley State University and works as an orthopedic nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. God has blessed them with two daughters named Emma and Alivia. After graduating from Hope College in Holland, Arryn Uhlenbrauck is now employed at Amwins Corporation in Cascade, Michigan. Alysa is married to Joshua Peters, is employed at Dave and Buster’s, and they live in Kentwood.
Pastor Uhlenbrauck was ordained into the holy ministry and installed as pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grants Pass, Oregon on July 15, 1990 where he served until he accepted a divine call to First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay, Michigan. In 1996 Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Muskegon called Kurt to serve as their next pastor. In 1998 he reluctantly resigned from the public ministry and moved to Grand Rapids. There he was hired by Kamp Oil and was employed as a truck driver and a warehouse worker for over 12 years.
Pastor Uhlenbrauck has been serving at St. Jacob since he was installed on May 1, 2011. On June 22, 2013 he was remarried to Karen Janetzke before the Lord’s altar at Salem Lutheran Church in Owosso, Michigan. Karen has a degree in mathematics and education from Eastern Michigan University. Her parents Wayne and Carol live in Bancroft. Her sister Ellen is married to Don Heydens, Jr. and lives in Rochester Hills. Karen definitely assists her husband in the ministry at St. Jacob.
Kurt enjoys reading, writing, singing, sports, history, painting, puzzles, interacting with people, learning more about God’s Word and sharing the love of Jesus Christ.
